Bonneville Sports Site Dromo One Indoor Raceway Challenge
Bonneville Staff Compete in First Annual Bonneville Kart Race

The memo at the Bonneville headquarters read, "Everyone is invited for the first annual "Bonneville Championship Karting Race". A new indoor kart racing center, Dromo One had just opened and we were all looking for an excuse to hone our driving skills. The company memo also added fuel to the fire by mentioning that everyone was invited to an after race dinner. The dinner would allow the winner a forum to brag about their driving skills and celebrate their winning ways!

Dromo One is a pretty cool place the karts are custom built and imported from England, they have a 200cc Honda engine with a 20 brake horse power dry clutch. We aren't talking about a wimpy go-kart with a lawn mower engine here, it is a competition machine. The 1,000 ft. Indoor track has nine turns and one 250' straight. The kart have a digital read-out on the steering wheel that reads lap time, elapsed time, laps completed, gap behind leader and race position.

The Bonneville crew met at the race facility and everyone was ready race, especially Kenny Holland, Bonneville resident kart fanatic. Kenny showed up in his full race uniform, racing shoes and his own helmet, an attempt to intimidate the rest of us. Charlotte was telling each of us why she should just cheer from the sidelines and not race, but we informed her that she was already committed to the event. The rest of us Michael, Sue, Brad, Rick and Dennis were just anxious for our first laps.

Unlike most go-kart tracks the dromo one race experience is just like a real race. First you sign-in and they take you through an orientation, next you are fitted in the locker room for your uniform and helmet. The crew assigns each driver a numbered car and you take your first six laps for time. The grid for the race is then lined up by lap times. The standing start from a staggered grid really adds to the fun. The main race is then a twelve minute feature that allows for everyone to feel like a racecar driving pro.

As I said earlier, Kenny is the resident karter of the Bonneville bunch. Kenny races in a regional kart challenge and is on the track on a regular basis, the rest of us ranged from slow-poke first timers (Charlotte), to wanna-be champions (Brad, Michael, Dennis & Rick) to blocking karts (Sue). At the end of the night there was no champion crowned Brad won the first race and Kenny won the second. With no third race to break the tie it is yet to be determined who the Bonneville Race Champion will be.

Next time you are in town come by the Bonneville showroom and we can give you directions to Dromo One, it is a quick 10-15 minutes from our offices.

Preparing to race with all the Gear.

Suited up and prepared for the karts, note kenny in his red racing gloves and non Dromo helmet.

Race one complete, Kenny is talking smack, Rick must be thinking endorsement contracts, Michael is getting the ladies and Dennis realizes his pro driving career has ended.

Kenny wins second race and makes sure we all know!

Michael realizes that racing is harder then it looks.

Charlotte explains why she completed half the laps as everyone else!
